Review - The food at Charrito's is excellent: can I just say the enchiladas de mole? In many years, I have never had a better mole. On top of that, the tacos de arrachera are excellent and the burritos are superb. I'll take the table chips too.

Above all... I don't care how hungry you are, you must order the guacamole prepared table side. Fantastic!

The table salsa is not too hot, but has enough pique to keep the average Joe reaching for water in their curious glasses. The sandwiches are nicely made for a lunchtime treat, but you should be hungry cause it's a lot of food.

As far as the ambiance goes, by far the best bang for your buck (and Charrito's is not expensive for the quality - easily affordable on a slim budget) sit outside and enjoy running into your friends on the sidewalk. They will envy your meal and ask you about it later. Inside there are tropical wall murals and traditional Mexican music which are nice during the winter but can be a bit much in the summer, though it is air conditioned. You will get to know the people next to you because you are sitting almost at the same table, but it's OK because everyone is friendly and well behaved.

My only issue with the restaurant is the speed of the service. I will be kind and give points because it IS a small place and it just isn't possible to hire more people to make it faster. Just be prepared to wait to have some of the best Oaxacan Mexican this side of the border. A typical meal there may last two hours if you get a busy night.

Also, I wish they had a liquor license. I bet they could mix a badass margarita. Alternatively, they will mix you up some nice Sangria if you bring your own wine. Also, feel free to bring your poison of choice. They don't mind bringing out some glasses and opener for you if their Sangria is not to your liking.

Review - Let's get this part out of the way: I am one of those West coasters who can't stop complaining about a lack of good cheap Mexican on the east coast. Charritos solves half of this problem. Its quite good, but oh my is it expensive for Mexican. But you know what? I am not even complaining. It is quite tasty and with the exception of the nod to the burrito and fajita crowd, its pretty darn authentic. I am from San Diego, which is to Mexican in this country what New York is to Italian food, so I am not a very easy man to please in this area. But like I said, it solves half of the problem because it isn't cheap. And you ask your average Southern Californian what he misses most in the NYC area and it will not only be Mexican, but those cheap faubulous taquerias specifically which are everywhere in SoCal and you only miss when you can't find one anywhere. (And In N Out Burger.) So is this a cheap taqueria where you can grab a bite for a few bucks and a few minutes? No. But it is fabulously tasty Mexican and my expectations have been lowered to the point where I was thrilled beyond belief to have found this little joint.

Review - The food is worth the sometimes 45+ minute wait, iffy service (friendly but forgetful staff), and 2 square feet of space. I've never had better guacomole ever, anywhere and I can't bring myself to order anything but the pollo enchiladas. Truly authentic mexican cuisine!

Review - Charrito's is the first and only Mexican restaurant I have found in 5-1/2 years since moving to NYC from the west coast whose food I truly crave. The food is SO good that I don't care that my table is inches away from the table next to mine or that I have to wait 30 minutes for a table every time. The staff is accomodating and if you forget to make a reservation they will take your name and cell # and call you when your table is ready. In the meantime you can cross the street and buy the wine for your Sangria. If you don't finish, Charrito's will put it in a container for you to take home and enjoy!

Review - Charritos is a unique restaurant with interesting decor and delicious food. It is quaint ,with maybe at most only 5-6 tables. We ordered the spicey guacamole which to our suprise, is prepared right at your table! They mash the avocados and combine all the fresh ingredients right at your table. It was ablsolutely delicious! Our entrees were great too - the food was hot, spicey, and tasty. The service was great - our server was very friendly and even allowed us to try the flan for dessert for free. I would highly recommend this unique restaurant for anyone in search of *authentic* mexican food.

Review - I don't really know what else I can add to the already dead on reviews posted here - Go there hungry and go there often... but DON'T go there without getting the fresh guacamole and bringing your favorite Spanish wine!

Review - This place is amazing. The guac prepared at your table is phenomenal--some of the best I've ever had. Whenever I have family/friends visiting from out of town, we always go there and everyone always raves about it and can't wait to go back next time they visit. Great authentic food, great atmosphere, super friendly service.

Review - I am addicted to their enchiladas with grilled chicken and mole sauce! Mole sauce is delicious. Another excellent dish that I frequently order is los chilaquiles with chicken. I have to go to Charrito's at least once a week.
