Review - I have been a resident of South Hampton for four years now (one of the first tenants to move in when the building construction was complete in late 2000). It's a great place in a great location! The doormen are very frindly and helpful. maintenance is very good. I have never had to wait for more than 2 hours for a request to be attended to. It is definitely multi-ethnic and the numbers are weighted more towards Indians. But guess what? whoever pays gets the unit. A much better bet than Liberty Towers, Marbella, Portofino, Avalon etc.

Review - Nice environment and nice view.
The biggest problem is noise from neighbors. Can hear a baby crying next door, a chair rolling upstairs, tv from the other side of the next door... Really thin wall.

Review - CHEAP BUILD QUALITY

1. The walls are thin and the paint is always chipping and nicking easily.
2. The floors splinter.
3. The WINDOWS are poorly installed. HUGE DRAFTS OF COLD AIR in the winter make the apartment extremely frigid and impossible to heat and keep insulated.
4. Huge air conditioning / heating units are LOUD and inefficient, resulting in very high electric bills.
5. LOUD ABNOXIOUS NEIGHBORS. You can hear them screaming and partying through the walls.
6. There is no choice of cable and internet providers. There's only one internet provider and you must get service through them, or have no internet.
7. No controllable ventilation in the bathrooms.
8. Impossible to get fresh air into the apartment bc the windows don't open and if they do there's no safety screen.
9. I can smell smoke from cigarettes being smoked in the neighboring apartment in my kitchen.

* The elevators are kept nicely and never smell.

Review - I recently moved from the overpriced Liberty Towers because of its numerous issues such as exorbitant electric bills, loud a/c, brown water, and cramped accommodations. Southampton has a lot going for it. It is great for families, multi-ethnic, lots of community events and activities, close to mall and transportation. Dogs are overly welcome. Not that I want one. The doormen are very nice and helpful. Apartments are a decent size, 2 bathrooms and the rent is reasonable considering the aspiration to affluency effecting the area. Leasing is flexible from 6 months-2years. You can sublet without headaches. Nice area to walk around. Lots of food options. All that said there are some issues that I'm VERY disappointed about. Issue 1: the cable situation is the most antiquated system I've ever seen. RCN is the ONLY option. No digital cable and yet the prices exceed nearby cable and satellite providors. It is basically basic cable with tier 1 premium channels. Channel lineup is something out of the 80s. No FX, Boomerang, PBSkids, Noggin, HGTV, Speed channel, etc. Issue 2: DSL is not available. Cable modem is not available. The building is wired with a T1 for $50/month and you can have that or pathetic dial-up. Wireless reception is horrible there are some many routers here. Issue 3: It can be very noisy here. Cars shouldn't be allowed to honk in this residential area. Issue 3: the parking garage is not attached to the building and is $170/month. They don't send you monthly invoices and charge you $20 if you pay late on top of getting your car locked in the garage as you attempt to go to work you find yourself having to wait for a representative to come over to help you get out because it is unattended. I wish they'd improve these things and then I'd be happy to stay here. FYI-the buildings are predominantly Indian 50%, Asian 30%, Caucasian 10%, and Black 5%. At least that is what my floor and elevator trips reveal. Anyway, I consider Jersey City my home now but I hope they improve these things soon and that I don't get priced right out of here.
